my goodness... it has been quite some time since i blogged! actually it has been quite some time since i have done anything crafty (and boy have i missed it)! life has been busy, good and full of many changes (many firsts and lasts)! in preparation of becoming an 'empty nester', much sooner than i would like... i decided to return back to work. not only did i go back to work full time in august, but completely changed my career path (explanation below)! and wow... what a busy four months this has been. can't even quite tell you where the time has gone! once i decided to take a design sabbatical... my design sabbatical turned into a craft sabbatical, and that was not my intent at all. since my last post in june time has just flown.
in a readers digest condensed version, here is what has been going on in our world...
in june our family decided to take a big vacation. we booked ryan's /
our families / big senior trip to celebrate / congratulate him!!! a 13
day land trip and sea cruise to vancouver and alaska! so in july we set sail and what a wonderful experience to share with my family in 'God's Country'! (we are so
PROUD of you ryan!) when we returned we jumped right into...
marching band august camp
band camp volunteer obligations
senior preparation
first day of school preparations
senior events
school registration
my job offer
learning curve of new job
home/work/life adjustment from new job
football season
uil marching competition
adopting a rescue dog
and
holidays
throw in daily life, all sprinkled with the fun and blessings of friends parties, an occasional craft day with my 'tweaker sisters' (as we call ourselves), a girls get-a-way weekend and weekend visitors from afar and well...
that pretty much brings us up to the current day.
now that football / marching competition season is over, along with my chaperon duties and finally starting to settle into our new family schedule of home/work/life... i am starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel and ready to get back to crafting on a regular basis. i have decided that it is time, once again, for me to seek out a couple of scrapbook creative teams... as i sure miss the creative inspiration and friendships of the scrapbook world. (will keep you posted on my findings)
now to tell you about my career change (from politics > sahm > special education)... over the past 4 years i have spent many, many hours volunteering at my son's high school (as many of you know). at the end of the summer i was offered a position at my son's school (Cypress Woods High School) working in the special education department. i never knew how fulfilling working with these wonderful children would be! i work with children from the ages of 16 - 22 that have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional and physical disabilities - down syndrome, autism, ms, mr, rhetts, and angle mans (just to name a few) - no 2 days are the same, everyday presents a new challenge and i feel so blessed to have the opportunity to be able to establish meaningful relationships with each child. in january i plan to return to school to receive my alternative certification in teaching for special education and can't wait to get started.
so in a nutshell... so are the days of our lives.
over the thanksgiving holidays i have finally had time to do a bit of scrapping, get caught up on email, facebook and blog reading over my morning coffee and sure have enjoyed it! which brings me to this...
one of my most favorite blogs to read in my dear sweet friend kristina proffitt, one happy mama's blog. it is always so happy, warm, inspiring and encouraging. in reading her blog today... what a thought provoking post she had made. she asked the question...
that question made me stop in my tracks and took my breath away! with the last few months being total chaos and with my earlier statement "can't even quite tell you where the time has gone"... I have decided to jump in and join kristina in her 'right now challenge'. over the course of the year my good intentions of following through on all my many projects have, one by one, slowly fallen by the wayside and now i am left with only the memories my brain can contain... leaving many holes, in what i know would be, many cherished memories. in 2013 i am going to scale back my projects and role my favorite projects into one... one little word, project life, days of gratitude and right now challenge... not sure how i am going to do that yet, but the simpler the better. with very limited time to scrap... i've decided that my pictures will not be perfect, that i will get over the fact that i really do not like my handwriting and just get the 'right now' down.
geez... this was one long winded post. i guess you could say after months of no blogging > long time no blog = one long blog post. today i am leaving you with a few shots from our alaska trip and as always, thanks so much for stopping by!
from our family to yours...wishing you a warm, wonderful and blessed holiday season.
